dscn4160Growler use by consumers and retailers is becoming an increasingly popular way to bring the retail draught beer experience home or to transport rare or small production beers. The important decision to fill and use growlers must be made with an eye towards safety, delivering quality draught beer and compliance with all state and local regulations.

In response to the increasing popularity of growlers as a “to go” container for fresh draught beer, the Brewers Association draught beer quality subcommittee has announced the publication of a new resource, Facts About Growlers. This new document highlights best practices concerning growler container cleanliness, filling and filling hygiene. Post-filling quality issues for consumers, as well as safety notes for retailers and consumers, are addressed.

Facts About Growlers joins a series of concise, easy-to-read documents used to communicate critical information about draught beer quality to retailers, wholesalers and line cleaning service providers. These fact sheets can be downloaded from free of charge and printed or reproduced as needed.

Now at Tow Yard Brewing, you can Buy your Buddy a Beer. You pay now, they drink later. Their name goes up on our chalk board until they redeem. And, we’ll send a text message letting your buddy know you bought them a pint of their favorite TYB beer!

Peter Peter Pumpkin Pleaser, had a wife but wouldn’t tease her. He stumbled in the pumpkin patch, there he found his perfect match. Found a pumpkin oh so grand, with luscious curves that fit his hands. A pumpkin, sweet and spicy too, Peter then knew what to do. He smashed this pumpkin into his mash, and made the perfect beer from the pumpkin patch. 5.6% ABV

1) The field is set: We introduced the concept a few weeks ago, but we’d like to reintroduce the brewers. Joining us on 9/27 are Triton, Flat 12, Barley Island (BBWheats winner), Twisted Crew (BBBelgians winner), Bier (BBStouts winner), MashCraft (Andrew Castner, our winningest brewer while at RAM Indianapolis), and two newer Indy establishments, Books & Brews and Tow Yard Brewing.

Tickets are selling quickly; they can be purchased at

2) Giving back to the community: As with all of our events, we set aside a portion of ticket revenue for a great local cause. For the #BBxIPA event we will be donating to Capturing Hope, a local group where one of our regular volunteers is passionately involved.

Capturing Hopes photography is a national organization with a local chapter here in Indianapolis, Indiana. We have a group of professional photographers that offer free lifestyle photography sessions to families while their little one is in the NICU to help document the growth, progress, and amazing journey these little ones go on. Families are given all rights to print their photos and are able to sign up for a free session every two weeks. For more information please check out our website at or our Facebook page at

To date we’re proud to have donated over $10,000 to local organizations helping make our city a bit of a better place. And we’ve tasted a lot of outstanding beers along the way. Cheers!
